TMV Service
Thermostatic Mixing Valve’s (TMVs) are installed to safeguard vulnerable building users from the risk of scalding. The HSE defines vulnerable people as children, older people, people with reduced mental capacity, mobility or temperature sensitivity and other people who cannot react appropriately, or quickly enough to prevent injury.
Within an NHS premises patient scalding from water used for washing or bathing is deemed a ‘Never Event’. However, the installation of TMVs pose their own risk to the wholesomeness of the system water, particularly when their installation has not been adequately considered or they are not subject to a sufficient inspection and maintenance programme.
Appropriate installation of TMVs should be risk assessed. Heath Technical Memorandum 04-01 (2016) states that “a scalding risk assessment is necessary to establish the need and type of device to be installed.”
Aqua Protec provides services to assist with the performance and material requirements and test methods for TMVs including:
- Auditing of the water supply conditions intended to supply the TMV
- Commissioning of the TMV
- In-service testing of the TMV
Aqua Protec City and Guilds Qualified Plumbers have experience installing, commissioning and servicing of a variety of TMV3 approved valves in accordance with the requirements of Manufactures guidelines and HTM04-01 Performance Specification D08: Thermostatic Mixing Valves (2015).
Aqua Protec are members of the Approved Contractors’ Scheme certified by Severn Trent Water, WaterMark and WaterSafe and therefore able to issue a certificate for any general plumbing work we complete to demonstrate compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (1999).
